Keep drainage clear
Leaves and debris on patios and around walls can hold moisture and clog drainage. A seasonal sweep makes a real difference.
Watch for shifting or settling early
Small shifts are normal but easy to fix early. A pro can lift a few pavers, re-set the base, and reinstall, much cheaper than waiting until the whole section moves.
Address moss and stains promptly
Organic stains and moss are easier to handle when they first appear. Gentle cleaning protects the surface and keeps the look crisp.
Inspect retaining walls each season
Look for bowing, leaning, or water pushing through. Catching a drainage problem early protects the wall investment.

- When should joint sand be topped up?
- Check it every spring. Massachusetts freeze thaw cycles and heavy rain pull sand out of the joints, and open joints let pavers shift and weeds start.
- Is sealing pavers necessary?
- It is optional. Sealing helps with stain resistance and color, but a properly built base matters far more for how the patio holds up over the years.
- What should I do before winter?
- Clear leaves off stone, make sure drains and downspout outlets run free, and avoid rock salt on new masonry. Sand gives traction without chewing up joints.
